The Effects Of Oleocanthal On Cancer & Alzheimer's

The “Elixir of Life”, Oleocanthal, has been revered as an extremely powerful Natural Medicine. This phenolic compound found exclusively in extra virgin olive oil has been credited for inducing the death of cancer cells, preventing and halting the prevalence of Alzheimer’s, protecting the heart and arteries from cholesterol, alleviating rheumatoid arthritis, all the way to reducing inflammation. However, in today’s world there are millions of products that make massive unbacked claims. Oleocanthal is not one of them. Let’s take a look into the research…

Oleocanthal’s Ability to Kill Cancer Cells (See Link):

It’s no secret that the Mediterranean diet has been associated with longevity. However, researchers are now starting to attribute heavy olive oil consumption as one of the prevailing factors at play when researching the links between the inhabitants of this region and life span. To illustrate,

“A meta analyses of nineteen observational studies performed between 1990 and 2011 that included approximately 35,000 individuals found that olive oil intake is inversely related to cancer prevalence”

As you can see, Olive Oil seems to play a key role in the prevention of cancer. However, what exactly is the driving factor within Olive Oil that is responsible for this phenomenon? Good question. The answer, is that a phenolic compound unique to olive oil, Oleocanthal, seems to be the gladiator fighting on behalf of the human body. As the research article continues, they explain,

The anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, antimicrobial, anticancer and neuroprotective activities of oleocanthal have been examined by previous studies. Of these, studies on the anticancer effects have been the most extensive. Oleocanthal was reported to suppress melanoma, breast, liver, and colon cancer cells.”

Since oleocanthal inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes that mediate inflammation, which is associated with cancer initiation and progression, there was increasing interest in studying the anti-cancer properties of oleocanthal.

Additionally, the authors showed that oleocanthal inhibits proliferation and the ability to form colonies formation in soft agar of HT-29 colon cancer cells. Other reports illustrated the anti-proliferative activity of oleocanthal using various cancer cell lines–including breast carcinoma”

“Whereas we previously reported that oleocanthal induces cancer cell death via lysosomal membrane permeabilization (LMP) [19], other mechanisms for cancer cell death–notably apoptosis–in response to oleocanthal have been reported”

So, as we can see here, it is Oleocanthal in particular that is inducing the death of cancer cells and working to prevent the precursors of cancer to thrive. This is incredible news for individuals who seek organic, natural medicines to heal and optimize their bodies. Sadly, however, not all Olive Oils contain high levels of Oleocanthal.

What is considered “unusually high levels” of Oleocanthal, is in the ballpark of 680mg/kg. This strength is what was used in many studies involving oleocanthal rich olive oils positive effects on the human body, especially as it pertains to certain ailments. The issue is, such olive oil comes at a cost. Often surpassing $70 a bottle, and many companies possessing levels far, far less than 680mg/kg.

Liokareas HP EVOO, on the other hand, is expected to take the Healthy Olive Oil world by storm, as their HP EVOO possesses an astronomical Oleocanthal level of 959 mg/kg.

 Oleocanthal’s Impact on Alzheimer’s

Not only does Oleocanthal have an impressive impact on cancer cells, but it also has been studied for its neuroprotective properties. Given the highly technical nature of this research, we feel it is best to allow the experts to explain:

“Neurological studies focused on the effects of oleocanthal against Alzheimer’s disease. Oleocanthal improved clearance of the amyloid beta protein from neurons and reduced the inflammation of astrocytes.”       https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5986450/

Auburn University researchers have found that,

“studies on oleocanthal and oleocanthal-rich extra-virgin olive oil show the compound is highly effective against Alzheimer’s-related behaviors.

“We are very excited about our findings with oleocanthal, which demonstrated several positive effects against Alzheimer’s in mice that express the disease, such as enhancing the blood-brain barrier function and reducing the formation of amyloid-beta plaques and neuroinflammation, all of which are hallmarks of Alzheimer’s,” said Kaddoumi. “We are optimistic about the impact of oleocanthal on reducing the risk of developing mild cognitive impairment, a stage that precedes Alzheimer’s, and on reducing the progression from mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimer’s.”

So not only does Oleocanthal have a profound impact on cancer cells, but it also exhibits neuroprotective capabilities that ultimately prevent and help halt the progression of Alzheimer’s and dementia. This is only scratching the surface of what Oleocanthal is capable of. Additional research is on the horizon analyzing Oleocanthal in relation to MS, Autism, Osteoporosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Cholesterol and Heart Problems, Diabetes, ect.
